MADRID (Spain) – (MADRID) The pool of 15 players that Spain will use for the upcoming window of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 European Qualifiers includes five teams that were just recently crowned champions at the FIBA EuroBasket 2022 tournament.
Sergio Scariolo has asked European champions such as Dario Brizuela, Alberto Diaz, Jaime Fernandez, Joel Parra, and Sebas Saiz to join the team that will compete against Italy away from home on November 11 and in the Netherlands at home on November 14.
The winner of the match between Spain and Italy will have a significant advantage over their rival in the race for first place in Group L of the Second Round, which will help them better ensure their qualification for the World Cup the following year.
11 of Scariolo’s 15 players have previous experience in the European Qualifiers, as they have all participated in at least one of the matches leading up to the tournament that will take place the following summer. Six of these players, including the five EuroBasket champions and Yankuba Sima, have participated in at least half of the eight qualification games. These players will represent their respective countries in the upcoming tournament.

In February of 2023, Spain’s final two games in the European Qualifiers will be away against Iceland and at home against Italy. Spain is hoping to have secured their spot in the tournament prior to the conclusion of the qualifying window.
