Canada has breezed through these Qualifiers with no hitches. They are the tournament’s only undefeated team, and they now have two home games against Venezuela and Panama to clinch their spot in the World Cup. They’ll be careful not to underestimate Venezuela, as a loss would tie both teams for first place. If history is any guide, the South Americans will be a formidable foe.
Argentina and the Dominican Republic are locked in a battle for the third spot in the World Cup standings, but they are close enough and have a good chance of rising. The team that does not finish in the top three will have a chance to punch their ticket as the best fourth-place team.
Bahamas and Panama are at the bottom of the standings and have lower odds, but they are still in the running.
Star to Watch

- Proceed with caution.
- 205cm / 6’9″ tall”
- 11.0 PTS, 11.0 REB, 2.0 BLK, 1.0 AST, 55% FG in 24.0 minutes per game in August.
Because of his strength near the basket, the Pinar Karsiyaka (Turkey) player has been a stalwart of the Dominican team during these Qualifiers (where he leads in rebounds with 12.0). He’s back among the players eligible for D.R., and if he makes the roster, he’ll greatly improve the squad’s chances in their next two home games.
Outstanding Prospect

- Proceed with caution.
- 205cm / 6’9″ tall”
- 4.0 PTS, 5.5 REB in 12.7 minutes per game in the first round.
The 19-year-old, who is currently playing for Fuenlabrada in Spain, is one of Argentina’s most promising big men prospects for the future. He was available for Window 4 but did not play because Argentina’s main stars were present. With the majority of them out, Fernández may have more opportunities to show head coach Pablo Prigioni that he can produce right now.
